The sun is bright, and the days are longer, allowing us to spend more time outdoors and enjoy recreational activities. Being outdoors and close to nature, I experience a sense of stillness and positive energy from the tall lush green trees, wildlife, chirping birds, and water streams. This type of experience you can not get in a gym.

Studies have shown that people who get outdoors more often are happier, healthier, and cognitively and physically stronger.

June is Great Outdoors Month. Biking is a great way to get outdoors and enjoy Mother Earth. Dust off your bike and start pedaling with me this month.

Benefits Of Biking

Biking is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to improve your health and wellness is to get outdoors.

Biking is a safe form of cross-training exercise with many health and fitness benefits: building muscular strength and endurance in your legs, increasing cardiovascular fitness, and improving joint mobility. Most importantly, you can spend time with your friends and family while staying healthy.

The upfront costs for a bike, helmet, and pump can range from a few hundred to thousands of dollars. I highly recommend going to your local bike specialty shop and getting fitted for a proper size bike and helmet because your safety comes first. The price depends on whether you want to ride for leisure or competitively. For me, it is for relaxation.

Hydrate And Sunscreen To Protect Your Body

Drink, drink, and drink plenty of water. 55 to 60 percent of our body is water, and our body weight can fluctuate dramatically and quickly, especially after exercising in the heat because of sweat.

Sunscreen is vital, especially during the summer months. The reason is the sun is at a more direct angle which leads to more damaging UV radiation.

Purchase a sunscreen with a protection factor (SPF) of at least 15 or greater to cover your skin. The higher the SPF in sunscreen, the more protected your skin is against UV radiation. Apply a generous amount of sunscreen on all exposed areas of the skin, face, neck, ears, nose, hands, and legs.

Biking is one of the most affordable ways to improve your health and wellness to get outdoors, enjoy nature, and get fresh air.

Enjoy the summer season!
